Use GNOME 3 Application Manager in Xfce?

Possible to use GNOME 3 Application Manager in Xfce DE?
Will G3 Application Manager install a bunch of G3 Libs.?

I'm seeing in dnfdragora 'double listings' for some of the Vector & Paint/Photo Apps and add-ons.

I'm thinking of jumping from Fedora Design Suite to Xfce Spin so I can have more theme control. GNOME Tweaks Tool does not cut it. The big White Title Bars are causing line burn-in under the navigation bar. Also Xfce has a Screen-Savor unlike GNOME 3.

Note Black themes makes some program menu icons very hard to see in Bluefish Code Editor and other programs.

Playing DVD

I've had this problem in previous releases, but have always been able to solve the problem. Since F27 I have not been able to play DVDs. Probably a DRM issue, but gstreamer has worked in the past.

Anybody figure a way to play DVDs with F27? Thanks.

Dual booting with Windows

Hey people! I am trying to dualboot Fedora 27 on my machine which already runs windows 10. I am not very familiar with disk partitioning or linux. I am facing an issue in installing Fedora.

I have my windows in my C drive (97gb total), D drive (292gb) where I plan to put my data (documents and media), 75gb unallocated and system reserved (100mb).

When I try to install Fedora from the bootable thumb drive, My partitioning looks like a complete mess. It says only 1024kb is free and 301gb is reclaimable. I dont understand how it calculated those numbers. Some 900ish kb's show as system parition(sda1), actual windows system partition (100mb) itself shows as ntfs (sda 2), c drive (97gb) shows as New_Volume (sda 3), D drive (292gb) doesnt show. I tried Create automatically option bit it either says not enough free space or error checking storage configuration. Please help me out.

Include e2guardian as successor of dansguardian

The title says it all… After upgrading from F24 to 26 I realised that dansguardian had not been upgraded. I have been using this (in conjunction with squid as proxy) for at least a decade and appreciate the cleaner look in any webbrowser due to filtering out of many ads. A quick visit to DG's page suggests to me the software has sort of died; a fork under name of e2guardian seems to have taken over the baton, but is unfortunately not packaged with DG. Anybody aware of a package for Fedora (the website provides source, Debian & Slackware).

eclipse debugging broken after update

I have been successfully using eclipse for debugging an ARM project but since latest update the debugger fails to launch.

All it gives is the very unspecific and uninformative message:

Code:

Error in final launch sequence
Invalid context

And that's the "details" version !

I can still build the code so most is still OK , it can flash the hardware but I get this error if I try to start a debugging session. ( gdb )
Code:

st-util
.....
2017-12-25T13:30:56 INFO gdbserver/gdb-server.c: Listening at *:4242...

So I set the debugging port to 4242 in eclipse but this did not fix the problem.

The eclipse debugger window shows the following
Code:

Info : tcl server disabled
Info : telnet server disabled
Info : Unable to match requested speed 2000 kHz, using 1800 kHz
Info : Unable to match requested speed 2000 kHz, using 1800 kHz
Info : clock speed 1800 kHz
in procedure 'init'
in procedure 'ocd_bouncer'

This kind of run-around seems usual when updating eclipse, I shall have to get dnf to block it if I ever get it working properly.

I tried to downgrade but it got in a right mess where it could not even start itself and gave me loads of unresolved deps in the error log.

Current version is "oxygen2" which seems to mean 4.7.2 according to dnf.

Can anyone suggest how I can determine what this hopeless error message is really complaining about?

Thx.

Fedora 27 ACPI error messages when booting

I am seeing these errors when booting:

ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20170728/dswload-210)
ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20170728/psobject-252)
ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, (SSDT:xh_rvp08) while loading table (20170728/tbxfload-228)
ACPI Error: 1 table load failures, 7 successful (20170728/tbxfload-246)

These messages do not appear to affect the running of Fedora 27, but I am wondering why I am seeing them. Is there some ACPI Bios setting I should be using, or is this just normal Fedora 27 operation ? My mobo is the MSI Z170A SLI Plus, which is fairly modern.

Fedora 27 Nouveau driver error message when booting

As I understand it the Nouveau driver is the open source video driver for my graphics card, which is NVidia Geforce GTX 960. When I boot Fedora 27 I see the message:

nouveau 0000:01:00.0: bus: MMIO write of 80000136 FAULT at 10eb14 [ IBUS ]

I can still login to Fedora 27 without problems and my video display is solid and I have not noticed any video problems. Does the boot error message mean anything, or is it just another one of those inscrutable boot error messages which can be largely ignored ?

GNS3 doesn't work on F27

Hello there!

Fedora 26 and 27 shipped with GNS3 in their official repositories, but due to some license, a few dependencies packages are not including in the official Fedora, so they have been packaged in copr by Athmane Madjoudj, but there is a problem with 64-bit Dynamips package, which prevent gns3 from working, but still you can use 32-bit Dynamips package with 64-bit Fedora which works fine.
Dynamips 64-bit, Even with the compiling of it from the source it doesn't work.
I open this discussion here to see and find a solution for gns3 in Fedora, because Dynamips can't be in bugzilla.
There is a report on Dynamips in github https://github.com/GNS3/gns3-server/issues/1177

How to produce the problem:
* Install gns3-gui and gns3-server from official fedora repos.
* enable Athmane extra gns3 repo by run this command:
Code:

dnf copr enable athmane/gns3-extra
* Then install vpcs dynamips packages
* Use any supported IOS and run it with gns3.

Hi
I have bluecurve-gnome-theme-1.0.0-14 installed in my system. After upgrade to Fedora 27, I noticed when I logged in MATE Desktop (1.19.1) that on windows border the color has became white instead of blue. I thought mayble there was something broken, so I reinstalled the bluecurve package, but I have the same problem. I googled for a similar issues but I did not find anything relevant. Any comment or suggestion is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

After upgrading to Fedora 27, I installed Multimedia codecs (RPMFusion) using the tutorial at https://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linu...fedora-26.html, After this, I tried to play an FLV file, I cannot view anything but I can hear sounds, same thing with MP4. I tried the files using Totem Movie Player.

Any comment or suggestion is welcome.
Thanks in advance

I cannot unarchive any files from either zip, rar or anything else which have been downloaded via Tor. I get the same message every time:

Tor Browser: 7.0.11

Directory says files are in the archive; attempted unarchiving using engrampa gui: no luck. Went to terminal (unrar is installed). At first I thought this was the result of corrupted archives, but a check with the person who posted them shows the archives are complete, and he downloaded them using Win, MacOS, and had no trouble with them. I don't understand this as as little as a a few months ago, I had no problems. Since FC26 and the latter part of my use of FC25, this started. Is there a fix?

Hi ^^

Since 4.14 hit live, i have those error messages about ACPI, looking like

Code:

Dez 25 21:13:03 operator kernel: ACPI Exception: Could not find/resolve named package element: LNKD (20170728/dspkginit-3
Dez 25 21:13:03 operator kernel: ACPI Exception: Could not find/resolve named package element: LNKA (20170728/dspkginit-3

.. and so on.

In Bios nothing has changed, ACPI is set and works.
Any ideas how to engange this ?

Fedora 27: Gnome Slider to Adjust Screen Brightness not working

$

Hi,

the command

Code:

[root@localhost]# echo 400 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
allows me to adjust the screen brightness so the driver is working.

The Slider in the top right corner of the screen in Gnome 3 does not. It is appearing, only moving it has no effect.

I suppose the link between the slider and the device is off.

So far I have tried without success:

1)
Code:

chmod 777 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
2) Adding the following to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

Code:

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "Card0"
        Driver      "intel"
        BusID      "PCI:0:2:0"
        Option      "Backlight"      "intel_backlight"
 EndSection

Any ideas? It must be sth small I guess...

It would be great if someone could help. Loving Fedora 27 so far...

Cheers,
Jani

crontab not working

since installing Fedora 27 workstation I've been having issues with crontab
When I do a "crontab e" a blank page opens. If I save it, it is saved in /var/spool/cron/username
After saving, it is ignored, i.e. the job I added never gets done.
I have managed to shedule a job by editing /etc/crontab directly and then restarting crond.
How do I get crontab to work?

Gnome-shell crashes after lock/unlock

Fresh install of F27 with akmod-nvidia from rpmfusion.
When I lock/unlock the system for the first time on a new boot, I can always see a blinking screen showing my last screen content, then it asks me to login, some times the first login doesn't work at all and it asks again, when I log in I see Gnome-shell ( or wayland ) crash note and ALL my previous works ( that means all windows I have opened and whatever I have done with the apps ) have just gone! But after this happened, the following lock/unlock will work as normal till next boot.
I have checked some threads here had tried to switch between nvidia and non-nvidia, between wayland and Xorg, but none of these seem solve this problem. I tried to install XFCE with cammand
Code:

sudo dnf groupinstall "XFCE"
, but for my SURPRISE that after the installation and new boot, when choose to login XFCE, is gives me a black screen and XFCE doesn't open at all!
Frankly, F26 showed me several crashes of Gnome-shell before, but i could always get my previous work resumed there just as that before crashes.
What can I do? Thanks.

Error installing Intel C++ RPM package in Fedora 27

I have previously installed successfully Intel's Parallel Studio 2018 Professional Edition using Intel C++ on a previous version of Fedora, probably Fedora 26 but maybe Fedora 25. Recently I tried to install Intel's Parallel Studio 2018 Professional Edition Update 1 in Fedora 27, which I had recently successfully updated to from Fedora 26. The installation of Update 1 produced this error:

Code:

1514260529:392 : execute_args: command rpm -ivh --ignorearch --oldpackage --force --nodeps --prefix="/opt/intel" "/opt/LinuxShare/downloads/parallel_studio_xe_2018_update1_professional_edition/rpm/intel-comp-18.0.1-163-18.0.1-163.x86_64.rpm" 1>> /tmp/intel.pset.root.FedoraZ170A_12.25.22.54.55.2017.log 2>> /tmp/intel.pset.root.FedoraZ170A_12.25.22.54.55.2017.log, arguments
error: /opt/LinuxShare/downloads/parallel_studio_xe_2018_update1_professional_edition//rpm/intel-comp-18.0.1-163-18.0.1-163.x86_64.rpm: signature region 62: tag number mismatch il 7 ril 5 dl 658 rdl 16

It looks like something is incompatible regarding the RPM format, perhaps a difference between rpm4 and rpm5. Has the accepted rpm format changed between Fedora 26 and Fedora 27 ? I was able to install the Update 1 on other Linux distros, such as CentOS7.4, Mint 18.3, and Ubuntu 17.04 without problems. Is there some workaround for Fedora 27 which I can use ? This is the first time I have been unable to install an Intel C++ release on Fedora because of such an error.

NFS-mount source which is not available

Hi,

in my /etc/fstab I currently have an entry

Code:

192.168.1.244:/mnt/hdcd/home/login/poddy/poddydata/cds /mnt/poddycds nfs rw,bg,retry=0,timeo=10,_netdev 0 0
which is used to mount a NFS-share to /mnt/poddycds. My problem: the server 192.168.1.244 is not always available and when it isn ot, my local computer hangs on start-up or shut-down when (un)mounting this share.
So how can I fix this? Means how can I ensure my system does not heavily try to mount this share when the server isn ot available?

Thanks!

dnf daemon client error

Installed yumex-dnf. Received the following error while trying to use this application:

daemon client error occured
g-io-error-quark:
GBus.Error.orgbaseurl.Dnfsystem
Locked Error
dnf locked by another application

Uninstalled and re-installed. When trying to use received the same error.

I am not intentionally running another application so the troublesome application must be running in the background.

How do I figure out what application is running? How do I stop the blocking application?

Thanks in advance
John
