So I have installed Fedora 17 on my laptop once before. The goal was mainly to use it for virtualbox and run various operating systems.
The first time around I was up and running with virtual box with no issue and was able to install operating systems using CD or DVD media. No configuration past the out of the box installation was required.
I did not allocate enough space for my purposes so I ended up re structuring my partition tables, doing a clean format on the ext4 partition after increasing it's size. Nothing new about this second installation except for the size of the partition.
Now when I tried to install windows 7 using the factory disk VB fails to see the DVD. It instantly fails and does not appear to even wait for the DVD drive to spool up and become ready. (Even though it does spool and appear to be doing something as I start and restart the operating system) Please note this issue is not just with VB as I cannot even mount any removable media.
When I try to mount /dev/sr0 I get mount: no medium found on /dev/sr0.
The DVD is good and I can boot the laptop from it. I have also tried an arch linux live media, and several other cd's and DVD's that are known to be good. They all fail with the same result: No medium found.
fstab shows no entry for a removable drive however through reading I realize this may not be required anymore.
I'm at a complete loss right now because of the simple fact that my previous install had no issue.
My linux skills are decent however I've hit a brick wall in diagnosing the issue on my own through existing forum responses to users with the same issue.
