Problem:
My USB headphones work sometimes, and sometimes they don't. Parsed /proc/asound/cards for the right settings to /etc/asound.conf and rebooted. Worked. Next time I booted. It didn't work again, but nothing had changed in asound.conf.

Querying /proc/asound/cards over the span of several boots, I discovered that my soundcards are playing something akin to musical chairs. Sometimes, it's designated as card #1, other times it's #2 or #3.

Is this due to some change in the kernel? Is there a way I can manually associate the card numbers with the physical cards to keep this from happening?

As a temporary solution, I wrote a script that the computer runs at boot to keep my preferences consistent, but it's more of a hack than anything else. I'll attach it in the case that anyone out there is in the same boat, but it would probably need tuning.

Also would like to know if there is a more "proper" way of calling scripts at boot. Being that rc.local didn't even exist, I get the impression that maybe it's being phased out for something more chocolatey?

Thanks.
