Server Access / Transaction Logging Behavior

I have had a running Samba server for many years. One annoyance in the server machine logs I have put up with is the creation of two different logs for the same machine accessing the server. One is named by the client hostname the other is the numeric client address. The log created with the hostname is caused by browsing to the server through a file manager like nautilus. The numeric file is created when the connection is initiated by a script on the client machine. I would like all logs to be in the hostname log.
How do I edit my scripts to make it evident what the hostname is to the server connection? My scripts call mount.cifs to mount specific server shares to specific mount points on the client.
I can share more specific information once someone knowledgeable of samba behaviour responds.
