Hello all. I've been searching for a solution to this problem forever now but I can't seem to find any solution that works. I just installed Fedora 17 and was working on getting the wireless drivers installed. My laptop has a Broadcom BCM4312 network controller (seems to be troublesome for a lot of people). I temporarily connected a Wifi USB dongle so I could download the necessary files for the Broadcom adapter. I followed several different tutorials to what seemed like no avail. After restarting after installing updates the broadcom adapter disappeared from the Network Manager and it was only showing the wired connection. I could still use the USB dongle, however, but I'd rather not have to have it attached all the time. After quite a bit more searching for solutions II decided to try and just re-install the OS and start over. After booting off the live CD, I saw that the NetworkManager recognized the broadcom device (though there was no firmware, so it didn't work) so I restated my computer again without re-installing the OS and was surprised to find that I had an internet connection through the broadcom device. I thought this was odd but it was working so I didn't worry too much about it.
The next day I had a small issue with my wireless router (it just needed to be reset to resolve the problem) and I was unable to authenticate a connection with my laptop. After prompting me for my wifi password sever times I decided to check my connection with another device and it didn't work so I reset my router and restarted my laptop. When I made it back to the desktop I was unable to connect to the internet with the broadcom device as the connection had once again disappeared. I tried the same method of booting up the live CD and then restarting Fedora but this time nothing happened. I still have to connect to a wireless network. I'm growing extremely frustrated as I just switched from windows and all this trouble is making me start to regret the switch.
