Dear Friends,
I am running Fedora 16 32+ bit distro on my pc. I just downloaded the package called liveusb-creator using yum command as root and was trying to see if I could use my 4 GB USB stick (pen drive) to install Fedora on other pcs of mine just as I normally do with DVD/CD. For this purpose I needed to download iso image of Fedora. So I downloaded the latest Fedora 18 32+ bit LXDE spin iso image and used to with the USB stick and it worked on another pc of mine after I changed the BIOS order to make the pc boot off it.
But then I realised that I have another version ie Fedora 17 32+ bit LXDE, but its already on a CD and not as an iso image. So I did the following command to extract it as an iso image.
I got the iso and then I wrote it to the USB stick using Live USB creator GUI and I was able to install it on another pc by booting off the USB stick.
I went a step further and wrote this iso image to 2 different discs one being a DVD-RW and another DVD+R, both re-writable type of discs. But to my surprise none of these 2 discs was bootable despite changing the BIOS setting (which I often do and understand reasonably well). What is wrong here? Both these discs are brand new.
Is there a rule that iso extracted from CD/DVD can only be written to a USB stick and not to re-writable discs? Am I missing something here? Thanks a lot.
