This is on a system I used fedup to upgrade from F17 to F18. KDE was working on F17.
When I run startx, as the only user on my system, it tells me that it has lost the connection to the X server.
When I run startx as root, KDE loads up
When I run start startkde as both root and the user I get the message
strangely ~/.xsession-errors is not created when X fails to start as the user
