Every so often, mostly after I've already suspended and woken up the computer at least once, hitting num lock causes the LED to twitch on and off constantly. At the same time, the hard disk activity LED stays on constantly, and the computer does not respond to about 5% of the keys I hit (so I'm typing a word and I have to re-type it several times because it omitted a letter). A few other times, it will cause a key to act like it is being held down permanently. I have tried unplugging my keyboard and using the one in the laptop, but this does not seem to do anything.
Rebooting the computer causes all problems to cease until they begin again. I have also only seen this with the computer docked to a port replicator with a monitor attached to VGA, which I have set up to be a second monitor by leaving the laptop screen open. Also attached is a keyboard via PS/2, power, an audio out cable, and a webcam via USB.
When I run top, I see "dconf-service" and "gnome-settings-" at the top (I'm guessing it should be "gnome-settings-daemon", but it got cut off by the terminal). eating close to 70% each of the CPU.
My laptop is running an Intel Centrino processor on a Dell Latitude D630 with Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M graphics.
Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?
