Whussup with SSDs and bad sectors?

Somehow, I just get the feeling this one is not going to end well. <....>

The 411:

• Installed a spanking new SanDisk SDSSDH22 Ultra into the desktop box, and then installed F18 on it.
• Gnome-disks is already reporting a bad sector on it.
• My F11 install (palimpsest) is quite sure the thing is already failing.
• On a platter drive, I wouldn't think too much of a single bad sector.
• On an SSD, I have no idea if this is a normal thing, or a sign of impending doom.

For the first time, I've been disappointed by the response I got from Newegg on the issue. They said, "contact the manufacturer." So much for that "iron clad guarantee" they're so hot on. <..:dis:..>

So my questions are for somebody who knows more about these things than I do.

• Is this normal for an out-of-the-box SSD?
• Should I be concerned?
• Is it stupid to trust this particular drive?
• Anybody have any experiences with SanDisk tech support they'd like to share? (I'm still waiting for those lazy bums on the West Coast to get their sorry butts out of bed, triple-Sed and squirrel-caged in to work. <....> )
