Hi,
My dad and I just baught almost identical second hand machines, made by boxx. The are custom built desktops made for video editing and animation, which is what I do mostly. While the machines are old, the spec is amazing and the price is very low for what you get.
My machine is runing Fedora and also Kxstudio, a ubuntu variation for multi-media. My dad's is running Ubuntu and Windows. My machine has all (4!) fans on full blast, right from boot to shutdown. It's like sitting next to a rocket launching! My dads however, only had this issue in Ubuntu, and not in Windows. In Windows the fans are very quiet and just work as much as needed, which is very little for him as he dosn't do much heavy duty work.
I don't really want to install windows on mine to test, but as the machines are almost identical I would assume the same would apply, and that the issue with with my Gnu/Linux installs.
Can anyone help? I really can't cope with the noise :(
Thanks
Anna, UK

ps: I have tried messing about in the power section of the BIOS, can't seem to effect any audible changes.
