Hello all. New to the forum, Linux, and Fedora.
Recently I have been running a dual boot system on my Lenovo Z585 A10 using Ubuntu 12.10 but kept having major issues with the system crashing. I have since changed to Fedora and am liking it so far. The only issues I have encountered are these:
1. Wireless connection.
When I first installed F18 I had the option to connect wireless, however it kept telling me my network was out of range, even right beside the router. Windows can connect fine.
I have used search on here and found several guides dealing with chipsets and kernels and have done all including loading the broadcom-wl driver in the guide, checked the installed packages running against the kernel, checked the loaded kernel modules, tried to sort and manually load according to the guide from this forum and when I tried that I was given an error about a "key"? I am sorry, can not remember the exact phrase. I have also checked the brcmsmac driver in lib/firmware/brcm and they match what linuxwireless.org's guide suggested.
Right now I am on Windows since Fedora will not even allow me to see my wireless. I can connect wired.
I found a posting about using:
sudo modprobe -r brcmsmac; sudo modprobe brcmsmac #reload kernel module
At some point after trying a long list of these commands in the terminal I was able to get the option to see the wireless, but I still had to be right on top the modem for it to pick it up. After a reboot, it was back to wired only.
How can I get equal strength to what Windows is seeing and how can I get my wireless to work? Please, I am a beginner to Linux, so use the KISS method if you will. I would greatly appreciate it.
Problem 2 is unrelated to wireless but a wake problem from standby. The computer wakes, but the screen stays black. We can focus on problem 1 for now. :)
