No GUI Upon Boot

I was just using Fedora 18 as usual when the screen went black for like 3 seconds and then showed a screen telling me what it had started at boot, you know, when there's no splash screen. Then, it restarted so I thought it might have just needed to install some updates but it came back to a console. I logged in and used the gdm command to try to get a GUI but this weird logon screen came up with a user called something like dhcppc or similar and then every time I tried to logon with my account it reverted to the console. The last thing I did before it originally restarted was remove the XFCE desktop environment. Since then, I have been stuck as I am new to fedora. I do have access to Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Windows 7 if that's any help.
