All of the documentation on installation starts off with a CD or DVD that you boot from.
Many years ago, I did Sun (pre Solaris) installations booting from a local SCSI tape and then doing a true network installation using (remote dump piped to local restore) over the network - much faster than tape.
But I had a tape drive to boot from.
Is it possible to install fedora (18) using a plug-in-able media? For example, could I put an ISO image of the net installer (or complete installation DVD) on an external disk drive (or other USB device) and use that somehow?
I do not see any obvious ways to do this, but there has to be a way in the boot menus.
The constraint to have no CD or DVD is to keep the size of the portable system (wireless, of course) down for a person who works in tight quarters under less than ideal situations.
The box will come with MS something on it, so there must be a way - unless originally the disk is taken out and built on a machine with media; and then moved after the build.
This would be a useful trick to know. Someone could also be having problems with the media player or not want one as this friend does not.
