I've been searching for a solution to this for a while. When I used Kubuntu, the touchpad could be turned off while the keyboard was in use and turn itself back on when the keyboard was idle. I've found a couple suggested solutions. The first was to use syndaemon:
This works fine on my laptop, but does nothing on my wife's laptop (identical machines, because they were cheap and on sale.) I don't know why it would work on one and not the other, but I'll keep digging for that one.
The next solution I found was a synaptiks driver from RPM Sphere (found here).
That one offers a method to disable tapping while still allowing mouse movement, but it's a permanent disable, until you change the setting back.
Does anyone know another solution we can try?
We have HP2000-416dx laptops, AMD processors & graphics.
Code:
syndaemon -t -k -i 0.7 -d
