Short: Fedora 19 Desktop Live DVD will not load. Gets stuck on black screen. Can't install since black screen. Can get splash screen if i run nomodeset. After splash screen, screen falls back to terminal.
Long:
Stage 1: Creating LIVE medium
I've spent the last 9 hours trying to "BOOT" fedora 19 Desktop using any method you can image:
1) Creating Live USB using dd : Doesn't work -- will corrupt USB
2) Creating Live USB using livecd-iso : Doesn't work -- Will not show up as bootable even when boot flag is set
3) Creating Live USB using Fedora LiveUSB Creator -- Works only if you manually go in and correct its **** up by editing grub and correct the incorrectly specified directories.
4) Burning it to a DVD -- WORKS.
Stage 2: Running live DVD
OK. Since the DVD is the only method that actually works without any issue I'll only stick with that. Here's what happens if I try to boot it off of the DVD:
Direct: The screen goes blank, the DVD starts spinning, and after about 4 minutes it stops spinning. The screen remains black. Can't get into text mode or get a GUI. Nothing. Black.
Modify kernel line (1): If i were to modify it with nomodeset, I get the splash screen. The fedora icon starts to load. After the icon is fully loaded, it falls back into text mode. Only FAILED line i see is "Failed to start Wait for Plymouth Boot Screen to Quit." I can log into root, but cannot get a GUI up with alt+f7.
Modified kernel line (2): running with "xdriver=vesa" makes screen blank. No splash screen. Nothing shows up. Can't even get terminal or log into root. Screen is black.
Other modified kernel lines i've tried: vga=795 rdblacklist=neauvou modeset=0... none work.
My guess:
My best guess is that the NVIDIA driver is what's ****ing this up. I've been searching google, and those who have this problem are those who update the kernel, so they can naturally go and reinstall nvidia drivers. But I can't even get past the first live boot.
Any help would be appreciated.
Relevant computer information:
- NVIDIA GEFORCE dedicated graphics card
- Windows 8 with UEFI bios
- Secure Boot disabled
Other information:
The same DVD works, and boots on an older laptop that's got an intel graphics card with Windows XP/Fedora 14 dual boot.
