Hi,
I'm currently running Fedora 19 on my asus ux31a ultrabook, and thought I'd try to solve a long standing annoyance (exactly the same in 17/18).
I have only two USB ports on the laptop, so when at the office, I connect an external mouse, keyboard, harddrive, ... just by connecting a USB 3.0 hub. This works fine, if I respect the exact specific order of connecting things.
These don't work:
- If I connect the hub before booting, sometimes boot freezes when arriving at the balloon progress meter, sometimes it boots through, but the hub is not recognized. Or at least the attached devices don't function.
- If I boot first, have the power cable of the hub connected and only afterwards plug in the USB cable to the laptop, it isn't recognized.
This does work:
- If I boot first, connect the USB cable of the hub, and only afterwards plug in the power of the hub, all devices connected function happily.
Can you think of a solution that would allow me to leave the hub power connected, just plug the USB cable to the laptop whenever I want and not have to think about doing this or that thing first?
One idea is that the USB 3.0 port of the laptop I'm connecting to is a power port, but I don't know enough about this to judge whether or not this can cause problems.
I'd be happy to provide log outputs if you can tell me which ones would be useful.
Looking forward to fixing this :).
Sara
