Very Frustrated with Gnome 3.8.2

I am relatively new to Linux. I installed F17 to both my laptop and my desktop last year and was really happy with the way things were working. When it installed to the laptop it said it was going to forced fallback mode. I really like how simple that GUI worked. You had a couple of words at the top left of the screen that said applications and places. If you wanted a picture or document you clicked on places and looked in the proper folder. If you wanted to launch a program you clicked on applications and a list of categories came up and you moved the curser to the right category and selected the program you wanted. Very simple and quick.

Now I have installed F19 with Gnome 3.8.2. This was a fresh install not an upgrade. What a nightmare! Nothing seems to work right. I read most of the tutorial that came with it but that still doesn't help when everything is such a mess. I went with the Gnome version because I am used to and like the evolution email client and the Libre Office suite.

I like to play simple solitaire games when I am not using the computer for other things. So I found the selection of games that I had before and installed them using the software install function of Gnome. It installed them all over the place with the other applications. The old Gnome was smart enough to put them with the rest of the games since they were installed using the game category.

Now I find that I can't even move them. When I try to move them to the empty game folder that was already there I am told I don't have permission to do that. I am the only user of this machine and have set my name up as the admin, so why can't I move the files to where they should be? I could move any file anywhere I wanted to under the old Gnome.

So I have 2 questions. How can I get permission to move the files? And is there another GUI that uses evolution mail and Libre Office. I did try right clicking on the file and clicking on properties to give myself permission. The properties window said I didn't have permission to change that because I wasn't the owner.

Thanks for any help someone can give.

Carroll
