Lost sound for no apparent reason.

Well I am back again with another problem. As I said in another thread I installed Mate (F19) using live netinstall and most everything worked except for no videos is any of the browsers. After installing easylife it fixed that problem and everything was great. I could look at the radar loops or watch you tube. Everything else was working great also. I spent most of the evening yesterday just getting familiar with Mate and how everything was laid out. I also spent some time playing a game called Fight of the Amazon Queen.

I had also used the computer this morning for a while but don't know for sure if the sound was working or not. This afternoon I went to watch a video on you tube and it had no sound. I also checked the game I was playing and it now has no sound. I don't know of anything I could have done to kill the sound. The only thing I can think of is that I did delete the history files in Opera when I got out of it the last time before I tried to watch the video on you tube. I don't see how that should be related but I am just trying to give as complete a picture as I can. The icon at the top that shows when the sound is muted changes back and forth as I toggle it but I never get any sound. I also have tried the front jack for the headphones and they are dead too.

I thought maybe I had a hardware failure so I rebooted back into windoze and the sound worked fine so it has to be a software problem somewhere but I don't know where to look. I am pretty new at Linux and have only been using it for a little less than a year. I searched this forum but did not find anything that sounded like what I seem to have. If anyone can tell me how to start troubleshooting this I would appreciate the help.

And one other thing I would like to know is if it is possible on Mate to have automatic login. Since I am the only one that uses this computer I would like to be able to just turn it on then go for a cup of coffee and come back and go to work. I knew how to do that on Gnome but I can't find that option on Mate.

Thanks for any help you can give, Carroll
