I have a modem recently instaled in my home, and my laptop (hp pavillion dv7) cant use the internet properly. More preciselly, I can connect, the signal strenght is great everywhere in the place, and the download spead is aproximatelly what has been contracted whenever I download torrents (aprox 1M/s average, with a contracted spead of 10M/s, which is ok for me). However, I just cant open any website normally. One of the two things always happens: either the website just does not open after a long waiting with a error message from Chrome, or it opens after many minutes and always incomplete. Some more info:
1. My brother uses his notebook in my connection, and it works perfectly fine for him, which seems to me that eliminates the possibility of a problem in the internet. Also, I use the same connection in my Android (Galaxy S III), where it also works fine. In fact, I have complained with the internet contractor and they have made all the verifications, inclusive sending a technician to my place, and found that the internet was working properly;
2. The problem happens in both Fedora and Windows 7 (I have dual boot). This observation seems coherent with an hardware issue, although I have no idea of how to be sure;
3. I can use the internet of the university normally, which on the other hand is somehow contradictory with an hardware issue. Hoewver, the internet connection in the university is far better than mine, with parameters
5. The problem persists whether I use either wireless or the cable directly connected on the modem.

I have followed all the tests suggested in the in the link http://www.tuxradar.com/content/diag...blems-yourself, and everything should be working fine, except that it isnt. For example, I cant open normally the site www.google.com. In fact almost never I am able to open google in my home. But when I do "ping -c1 www.google.com" it returns a normal result. I have also a proper IP address returned when I do "ifconfig wlan", and doing "ping -c1" in this IP also returns a normal output, which seems to eliminate DNS problems (In fact, the problem persists whether I use either the address www.something.com or its number);
