http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/18/Schedule makes for somewhat worrying reading to me. Every since (rashly, IMHO) Fedora tried to move to a 6-month dev cycle, they've failed every time to meet the alpha, beta, RC and final deadlines (hence, the large number of date cross-outs we see!).
F18's schedule is now delayed so badly, it's actually making the 6-monthly cycle decison look highly questionable:
F18 alpha was delayed 3 weeks
F18 beta is delayed 8 weeks
F18 RC was delayed 6 weeks and rather than extend the delay, it's now been scrapped! (why? Will this cause last minute issues to be missed?)
F18 final has been delayed *10* weeks and is now scheduled for next year!
I think Fedora have proved that 6-monthly releases aren't viable - I feel they'll being held "schedule-hostage" by GNOME in particular, who have a 6-month schedule by no coincidence. Considering how poor early GNOME 3 releases were (basically making F15 onwards a worse desktop experience, IMHO), I think GNOME's schedules should be ignored from now on.
I vote for a 9-monthly schedule instead!
