Need help on setting up samba

I have a really old version of fedora, dated back to 2006.
I want to set it up because I need to retrieve all my work from this workstation.
So I need samba. I setup static IP for this workstation, but after installing samba
by
./configure
make install clean
and going to
cd /usr/local/samba/bin
./smbclient onestart

It says libtalloc.so.1 is not found.
Any thoughts that might help me get this workstation (VM) back onto the network
