network module fails to load automatically

I'm a newbie in fedora (tried Ubuntu for a while).
Yesterday I've installed fedora 17 - 64bit.
After installation of the nvidia driver (read howto online), my network card stopped responding.
I'm not sure, but I think that during driver installation the linux kernel headers where upgraded to 3.6.6
If I call "sudo modprobe r8196" then everything is fine.
I know I can add the command to /etc/rc.modules and it should work, but I read in the documentation that for network interface its not necessary since it uses a different mechanism.

For some reason my network interface module is not loaded when it should.
how to fix it?

For now I use the "/etc/rc.modules" solution. it works well, but I'll be happy to use a different solution and not a work around.
