nvidia update question

I got a new video card and downloaded the latest drivers from the nvidia site and installed them outside of yum. (Yeah - probably not the right thing looking back). Now I saw the following messages in the log after booting with the new card.

NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver
NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other console
NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in
NVRM: corruption and stability problems, and is not supported.

later in boot process

NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 310.19, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 304.64. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.

The 310.19 drivers are the ones I installed outside of yum.

Question 1 - Is there a real problem with the first message set? If so, how do I fix it?

Question 2 - How can I correct the second thing? Do I need to remove the 310.19 drivers? If so, how? I installed the drivers by running the file I downloaded from nvidia. There is no uninstall with it.
