A while back, I set up an old box I had with Fedora to use a machine to store my backups. I had 3 drives, a 500gb and 2x 2TB. I installed Fedora 15 on the 500gb, set the 2TB drives in a software raid 1, then pointed /home at the raid 1 array. Lastly, set up a samba share so I can back up files from my win7 machine.
Fast forward to this week, I couldn't boot into Fedora 15. It would hang during boot up and eventually spit out an I/O error. I was suspecting a hard drive problem (500gb drive is about 4 years old). Decided to try a reformat before replacing the drive. Since I was reformatting, decided to move to Fedora 17 while I was at it (fresh install).
Since I was just replacing the OS, during install I told it to just format the current linux OS partition. Install worked fine. Got back into the OS and realized /home no longer points at the raid 1. I can see the raid 1 when I go into files, I see a 2tb volume and when I access it all my files are there.
I guess my question is how do I reference that data? I can see the 2tb volume, but no partition like /home is pointed at it. Is there a way to move /home to the raid1 without having to reformat the raid 1?
I might be making this more complicated than it really is. The end result I'm looking for is to just set up the samba share again to point at the raid 1 array. Before, it was /home/backups.
