Issues: Problem installing Fedora 20 with Hardware Raid 0

Firstly, I want to say thanks to the Fedora Community for the converting me from Windows to Linux. This is my first post here which I can guarantee won't be my last.

So I have tried multiple times to get this install to work properly and have failed miserably each time.
  1. I have 2 c300 64gb SSDs mounted in Raid 0 (for performance) - WAS Windows
  2. I have a 1 TB HDD mounted to be the main storage \home
  3. I downloaded the full Fedora 20 disk as well as the Live CD so I can use either one
  4. Install goes through well. I have been following this breakdown(http://linuxontoshiba.blogspot.com/2...l-ssd-and.html) without the initial RAID removal since I don't have them. I also install Standard Partition with EXT4 so I can turn on TRIM afterwards.
  5. Install goes through well, I let Fedora actually configure the /home, swap, /, and /boot. It does this pretty well but I increase the /boot to 110GB instead of the 51 GB it chooses. Leaves me with 3.27gb free.

So it goes through the full install, I set the Root password and all. Install goes complete and I am to reboot. I reboot and make sure the SSDs are set to be the main boot. I boot to the SSDs and I just get a hanging white cursor.

I have no idea what is going on and why it just won't play well with me. Looks like through some reading, this could be a GRUB issue or something.

ALL help is appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

Male faces evolved to take punches.

Quote:

A new theory suggests that our male ancestors evolved beefy facial features as a defence against fist fights.

The bones most commonly broken in human punch-ups also gained the most strength in early "hominin" evolution.

They are also the bones that show most divergence between males and females.

The paper, in the journal Biological Reviews, argues that the reinforcements evolved amid fighting over females and resources, suggesting that violence drove key evolutionary changes.

Hi all,

I can't open on my Fedora Chrome or Rhythmbox and I don't know why. I can see it in Gnome task but the window of both applications isn't shown.

Anyone experienced this and know a solution?

Basic question on F20 install

Hello
I am unaware as to how the installation process works in Fedora. I would be upgrading via the network option recommended by fedup.

Does an upgrade change your most basic files?

I've messed around with fstab, some files in pam.d, I've messed with the firewall and installed a bunch of progams, have messed with rhosts and hosts.equiv etc, and have set up passwordless ssh.

Would any of this be undone if I do an upgrade from F19-->F20?

How would I best make a system image of F19 in case everything goes horribly awry?

bash_history deleted after reboot fc19

I'm pretty lazy about typing and have grown to depend on my bash history but for some reason since around the start of June my history file is being deleted on reboot.

Any ideas on the reason for this and how to restore previous behaviour?

Thanks

Hello! Me again '-'

So I would know if it is possible to leave the fonts in Firefox softer, beautiful, just like in Ubuntu for example. The default is not pleasing to me :(

Hi to all the members of the forum! :)

I am trying to use D-Link DWA-132 wireless N USB adapter 2001:3c22 H/W ver B1 and F/W ver 4.00 on Fedora 20 LXDE spin Kernel 3.14.4-200.fc20.x86_64. My fedora is recognizing my adapter but it is not connecting to the internet.

I have another adapter TP-Link TL-WN722N which is working fine.

Please suggest what should I do to connect to internet.

Thanks

F21 - Updated to nobooot

(depricated - solved ?)

Heyas

Just want to warn you before updating / reboot your system.
With todays/yesterday evenings updates, i can no longer boot into Fedora, not even to prior kernels OR emergency mode.
NOTE that plymouth is showing the drop animation, eventhough i had set it to solar, which was kept during the last 3 or 4 kernel updates...

So if you already have updated your rawhide system -> DO NOT REBOOT !
Of course, this is advice is based upon the assumption it would happen on/for your machine as well.

Just came here to search if something was posted already, but "related" posts were all for F20.

As of now, it seems like a wifi error, since it fails to mount my NAS, and some error message parts were gone after disabling entries in fstab.
Though, they're not the cause, just some of the symptons...

Rebooting now to collect the logs.

Fedora 20 with Epson DS-20 scanner

Has anyone used the Epson Workforce DS-20 portable document scanner with Fedora 20? I am considering purchase of one and would like to know what experience others have had.

Epson has SANE back-end drivers on their site, though finding them is a bit of a challenge.

If not the DS-20 ... then any small portable scanner. What has anyone been able to get working?

Can't boot after lvm partition shrink

$

Hello,

I have a dual boot configuration, with Windows and Fedora 20 using LVM.

The Linux install has (had?) 3 partitions: root, swap and home, on a and I wanted to shrink the home partition from 300-and-something to 145 GB. The system is on an extended partition, and the idea is to create a new NTFS partition with the freed space.

So, I logged with root, unmounted /home and shrunk the partition. I followed this procedure:

http://blog.shadypixel.com/how-to-sh...volume-safely/

My data was about 121G, I resized with resize2fs to 130G and then shrunk the LVM partition with lvreduce to 145G and finally done resize2fs to fit the new size.

This worked, but the extended partition was still used entirely. So I opened up fdisk, copied down the old partition table, then removed the extended partition and created a new one of 145G.

-- Problem --
When rebooting, Fedora take a while to boot and then it comes out with a message

Quote:

found device /dev/mapper/fedora_local--002-root
Warning: Could not boot.
Warning: /dev/fedora_localhost--002/swap does not exist
Starting Dracut Emergency Shell...
The old partitions were

- /dev/mapper/fedora_local--002-root
- /dev/mapper/fedora_local--002-swap
- /dev/mapper/fedora_local--002-home

Now, I've only the /dev/mapper/fedora_local--002-root, while swap and home are gone.

Then I just reboot-ed.

As I said, I have saved the old partition table that fdisk outputs, so I'm not too worried about data loss, but I'm asking because I don't want to make a mess :P

How can I fix that?
Thanks in advance!
~Aki

A survivalist known as the "mountain man" who evaded police in the US state of Utah for six years has been jailed for more than 10 years.

Troy James Knapp, 46, roamed hundreds of miles across the state, breaking into remote cabins and stealing firearms and food.

He was captured in April 2013 after a shoot-out at a cabin on Ferron Mountain, south of Salt Lake City.

He admitted several charges including burglary and a firearms offence.

Knapp had been likened by some to 19th-century US frontiersman Davy Crockett for his outdoor skills and hardiness.

Fedora 20 Not Detecting Network Card

After about a 6 year break from Linux, I have finally returned.

I tried installing Fedora 20 (default install - GNOME from LiveMedia) on a desktop PC.

My NIC was not detected (on-board). The green light on the Ethernet socket is blinking, so I assume the on-board Ethernet connection is fine.

lspci doesn't show anything that looks like an Ethernet controller.

What do I do now?

Long shutdown (~1min): "A stop job is running for Session 1 of user..."

Hello :)

I have problem with my Fedora 20. When i want to shutdown system - it takes about 1 minute to power off and freezeng on plymouth screen. But when i tap Esc key i can see, that system freeze on shutdown because:

Quote:

A stop job is running for Session 1 of user _user_name_
That process takes about solid 1 minute then shutdown is continued and latop is powered off. Before - system shutting down in a few seconds.

I don't know what cause this issue - maybe system updates (i'm updating system once per week)? I can't trace what cause the problem - it just started, maybe someone know more about it:rolleyes:

Can't seem to read SDXC card.

I recently got a Nikon D7100, which uses SD memory cards. I had started off with 16 GB SDHC cards, and I could read them without trouble under Fedora 20 using a card reader plugged into a USB port.

I got a couple of Lexar 64 GB SDXC cards, which was much more momory than I needed, but they were on sale, and they didn't have any 32 Gb cards, which is what I intended to buy.

I found when I put the cards into my card reader that nothing happened. I was still able to read them by going to Windows 7.

I think I should get a couple of 32 GB SDHC cards, which will solve my problem, but I would like to understand what happened. Can anyone enlighten me?

Accidently wiped hard drive MBR

Hey I accidently wiped my hard drive mbr and lost my partition table so I fixed it with
testdisk and installed a grub that I had available and I can boot into my system But I get
these error messages and the system doesn't boot like it did before my power went out.

Code:

[FAILED] Failed to mount /disks/E.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Local File Systems.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Mark the need to relabel after reboot.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Relabel all filesystems, if necessary.

I could probably access other important information, I want to reinstall grub2 maybe and see
if that boot menu will boot the kernel right.

If anyone has any suggestions on making this kernel functional again I would be much
obliged. DOH!!!
