Hi,
I'm on F17 with KDE. On occasion my laptop has just shut itself off while I'm in the middle of something and then reboots immediately. When it comes back up, I check dmesg but there never seems to be anything related to the incident.
It took me a while before I could say with any confidence what might be causing it, since I almost always have a web browser open, a text editor, and music playing. But it did always seem to happen when Amarok was playing, which is slightly less common than the other two activities.
I switched to using a different music player for several weeks and the incident hadn't reoccurred since. But today I went back to Amarok and the system crashed again.
So with that being the best I have to go on, I think Amarok is the source of the problem, perhaps a buffer overflow somewhere, but I'm not sure how to diagnose this further.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
