Running a Jar file?

Hi All

I have downloaded a tool I need to run that consists of a *.sh file and a *.jar file. seemingly either should run the tool, however if I double click the *.sh file it just opens in a text editor, if I type the name in at a prompt it tells me command not found.

If I double-click or type the jar file name in at the prompt it just opens the file with archive manager.

Everything I've read about Java says it is already installed, so why can't I run it?

I'm on FC14 if that is relevant

Any ideas?
