Compatible hardware for Fedora 17

I am having a video problem after installing Fedora 17. The computer is an HP Pavillion Slimline S5120f dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora.. I think the video is on the motherooard but Windows 7 indicates older Nvidia graphics, which may be causing some video problems under Fedora 17.

I am considering inserting another video card in a spare slot, but I can't find a list of video cards consistent with Fedora 17. The installation manaul refers to the Release Notes, but the Release Notes don't seem to have anything on the matter.

Can anyone tell me where to look?

Would I be relatively safe getting any up to date video card, say an ATI card?

If I install such a card, I assume Windows 7 will recognize it and still work without fruther changes, and the same would be true for Fedora 17. Is that right?.

By the way, where do I look in Fedora 17 to find out about X configuration. There used to be a configuration file in /etc/X11, but I can't find it anymore.
