After having so much problems with low audio output with these new distros I would like to make clean try once more.
Fujitsu laptop with card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: VT1708 Analog [VT1708 Analog] / Fedora 17.
I have tried every setting, with pulseaudio, without it. With OSS, that gives loud output, but does not work at input side. Do not offer "set all sliders to max" for me ! Done it so many times and ways !
I have now solved output problem by buying external headphone amplifier made by FIIO. With that I can have enough volume.
With old distros(kernels 2.xx and previous alsa) audio is so loud that I can drive speakers (without amplifier) directly from headphone plug.
With these new ones, and without FIIO, sound can hardly be heard even if all sliders are on top.
Latest notice is that I have fuzzed so much around that with alsa (and/or pulse) I have lost also mic input as with OSS.
Now I would like to start all from beginning. But there is no way to remove devices from Phonon.
And I suspect that it would not completely remove every setting around.
So I would like to have ALL away, and then Fedora should be kicked so that it discovers audio like it does when installing on plain PC.
I hope this would bring back microphone and silent audio that could be boosted with FIIO amp.
This may sound stupid but I'm so full of this...
Would like to go back to Mandriva 7, but new versions of other programs do not work any more with it. At least sound was working with it.As with older Knoppix distros tested with booting CD.
