can't use local network for file sharing

Hello everybody, I'm wondering if you can help me with this one:

at home I have a desktop with fedora 18 and my notebook with F18 too.. everything works fine, I have a router that provides wifi to my notebook and a wired connection to the desktop, I got internet access in both of the machines with no trouble... the problem is that I have been trying for quite a long time access files of one pc from the other.. but I got no idea about how to do it. my system is KDE, so I open dolphin and go to "network", there it shows 2 elements, one named "linux" and the other "linux-2".. each one of this elements has two items, the first is something like a drive (it says udisk ssh) and the second says it is a workgroup manager and it has the mac address of the respective machines (the mac adresses are correct in both of them).. but that's it, I cannot do anything at all from there, should I configure a workgroup?.. I don't know if I have to declare a folder as public or something.... I understand samba is used to communicate between linux and windows so I don't think it's the answer to my problem

I know it's a noob's problem but I really don't know how to get this working

Many thanks in advance
