I've been running Windows 7 and FC16 for over a year without a problem.
sda1 is a corporate image that helps reinstall Windows
sda2 is Windows 7 C drive
sda3 is Windows 7 D drive
sda5 is FC16
sda6 is Swap
sda7 is an NTFS filesystem
My C drive under Windows 7 filled up and there wasn't enough extraneous stuff I could delete any more, so I was faced with re-partitioning the drive. I got a bootable CD with
Partition Wizard on it and moved sda3 - sda7 down 10GB, then expanded sda2 by
10GB
Not surprisingly, when I tried to boot, nothing happened.
So, I booted with a linux rescue CD and had it boot my FC16 installation on sda5.
After logging in, I ran the command:
#grub2-install /dev/sda
When I rebooted, grub2 comes up, but I get the following screen:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grub loading
Welcome to Grub!
Error: No such partition
Entering Rescue Mode.....
Grub Rescue > ls
(HD0) (HD0,MSDOS3) (HDO,MSDOS2) (HDO,MSDOS1) (FD0)
That's NOT a full list of my partitions.
I booted from a FC16 DVD and chose to rescue a Linux Operating system.
did the chroot /mnt/sysimage then the grub2-install command. Same problem.
So, I used my Windows 7 Rescue CD and reinstalled the windows boot block. Now
I can boot windows, but no grub menu, no Linux.
So, I tried the following, each time reinstalling the Windows Boot Block from the Windows
rescue CD in between:
1) Linux rescue CD and grub2-install /dev/sda
2) FC16 DVD and choosing to rescue an install, then grub2-install
3) FC18 DVD and did a NEW install FC18 into a new partition, sda8 and instructed it to install the grub2 into the master boot record on /dev/sda.
Same result. It starts to boot, grub starts to come up, but it complains that it can not
find a partition.
Has anyone else experienced this? How did you fix it.
Thanks,
Mark
