duel booting with mac

Hello all I'm new to the forums but have been using Fedora for a while, to my question, I have convinced a friend of mine to try Fedora as he is interested in trying Linux and I suggested this to him.

He created an empty partition and started the install process, when the time comes to choose the partition options it will not see the empty partition at all and instead wants to use the entire disk.

Has anyone else had similar issues and found a way around?
