Acer Aspire Success

Finally, I have Fedora installed and running on my laptop. Read everything I could find here and even posted a question but could not get anything to work. I successfully installed openSuse 12.3 and aptosid with only one problem. The screen was very dark and had to use the Fn button to lighten it up to read it. Anyway, this morning I wanted to try again with Fedora. Didn't really like the others, just tried to see what would work.

I put in a cd for Fedora 19 netinstall and rebooted. The screen hung at the Acer logo. This has happen before. I rebooted again (again used the F12 key to get to the boot manager) and this time it finally went dark and then the boot manager. I held the F12 key for at least 30 seconds or more before anything happened. I selected the cd drive and the screen went dark. Tried the Fn key to brighten the display but nothing worked. I tilted the laptop and could see that there was something on the screen. Took it to my desk and turned on a lamp and directed it to the screen. Everything was there as it should be for a netinstall. Started my selections and went through the install. I tried several more times to lighten the screen but nothing worked. Very hard to do but got through the install and rebooted. F12 got me to the boot manager and there was Fedora. I selected it and it booted into it. Again, the screen was pitch black but this time the Fn key worked and the screen brightened up. Logged in and did some checks. Suspend works on closing the lid, touch pad and touch screen both work, sound is okay. Ethernet and wifi both working.

I don't have any clue as to why it worked this time and not the others. I have tried to boot that cd several times over the last few days with no success. This time it worked.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire M50481PT. Open box from Best Buy. 500g hard drive, 20g ssd, hdmi, 2 usb 3.0, sd card reader, dvd/cd rw, Intel i5 1.8GHz, 6g ram

Just wanted to pass this on as a success story.:dance:
