Fedora 17 fails to boot after install on Precision M6600

I've installed Fedora 17 from the network install disc twice--once with lots of packages and last with the minimal install. The installation appears to complete with no errors, but when after installation, the boot proceeds partway and then hangs with no indication of the problem.

I have been unable to find any explanation or solution. I'm hoping someone can offer suggestions if not a solution.

The PC is a Dell Precision M6600. I'm not sure which specs would be most useful, but here are a couple...
- Intel Core i7-2960XM @ 2.70 GHz
- AMD FirePro M8900 Mobility

The last bunch of lines displayed during boot (possibly with typos)...
Code:

[OK] Reached target Basic System
    Starting IPv6 firewall with ip6tables...
    Starting IPv4 firewall with iptables...
    Starting Security Auditing Service...
    Starting System Logging Service...
[OK] Started System Logging Service.
    Starting Network Manager...
    Starting Permit User Sessions...
    Starting D-Bus System Message Bus...
    Starting Login Service...
[OK] Started Security Auditing Service.
    Starting Command Scheduler...
[OK] Started Command Scheduler.
[OK] Started Permit User Sessions.
Starting Wait for Plymouth Boot Screen to Quit...
    Starting Terminate Plymouth Boot Screen

An error that appears very early in the boot process from both the CD and the hard disk...

Any suggestions including suggestions for where to look for clues about what's happening?
