Samba not working with shares

Installed Samba and I can see the shares but when I double click on them I get error saying I don't have permission to the folder.

Forum RSS feed returns same Etag even though content has been changed

I use the miniflux to review the forum's RSS feed.

As of 1 or 2 weeks ago, the etag returned on the RSS feed seems to have stuck. The last modified date changes, but not the etag value.

Miniflux sends both If-None-Match: etag and If-Modified-Since: <last modified> fields. The forum RSS feed returns a 200 status with the list of feed items. The returned last modified field is newer, but the etag does not change. According to wikipedia, the etag should change whenever the feed contents are updated.

Unfortunately, miniflux does a post-reply check that throws out the returned response if the etag does not change.

Is the etag generator stuck on the forum RSS feed server?

Libre Office, missing USA language module

Somehow I lost USA language in Libre Office. How to get it back?

Libre Office is the only application that suffers from this issue. Other tools do show all available languages.

Also in Tools > Options > Language settings, English USA is not recognized. Yes, I can select it but it does not check the spelling.

Daiblo 3 no sound

I got diablo 3 running in fedroa 20 but it has no sound. I am using play on linux. To get to run. It runs nicely other then it has no sound. I am not getting any error just no sound. The system is running fedroa 20 q6600 oc to 3.4 ghz 8 gb ram ddr2 video card is nvidia 460.

Guest account on F20

I'm almost ready to create a special flash drive with F20 installed (This will be a full install, not just a live image, so that I can format the entire drive with ext4 and not have to worry about persistent storage.) and ClamAV so that friends can use it to scan/clean Windows boxes when Windows isn't running. It just occurred to me that my friends are going to need to know how to log in the first time, meaning that they'll need to know the password. I see no problem with putting a README.TXT file on the default desktop, including both the user and root passwords (and instructions on how to change them if desired) because this is just a form of rescue system, not intended for normal use, but they do need to get logged in that first time. Normally, I don't like to enable an auto-login, even on my own desktop, but this is different. If somebody can point me to instructions on how to do this, or how to create a guest account without a password, I'd appreciate it.

nvidia driver issue with F20

Hey guys.

Recently upgraded my hardware, including a spanking new Nvidia geforce 760.

I reinstalled F20 and followed this guide http://rpmfusion.org/Howto/nVidia#GeForce_8_and_newer to install the driver.

The driver installed and seems to be working somewhat atleast.

Compiz-fusion does not work with the driver, and there is alot of tearing on the screen when i attempt to use it.

Also plymouth (boot manager) is now only in text mode, and the nvidia logo is missing when i get to KDM.

389 Directory Server with self-signed certs?

I have been playing with trying to get 389 Directory server set up, and am having trouble figuring out the TLS piece.

I am attempting to follow the guide here:
https://access.redhat.com/site/docum...lf-signed.html

But in step 1-3, it just states "Import the temporary server and CA certificates into the Directory Server using the Directory Server Console. When importing the CA certificate into the Directory Server security databases in the Directory Server Console, make sure to allow the CA certificate to be trusted for both client and server authentication."

The problem is, it is not that obvious to me HOW to import them through the console...

When I go into 389-console, open the "Directory Server" and click "Manage Certs," I see the "Server-Cert" and "Temporary CA certificate" that the previous steps had me create under the "Server Certs" tab. I am assuming I need to highlight them and click "install," but I'm not sure where to find the hash to paste into the wizard.

Anyone willing to help me out on this? I could really use a little help getting a grip on the process.

Add window buttons to xfce4-panel

Hi the top panel was screwed up yesterday and I couldn't figure it out, so I deleted it and created another one. The new panel does not display window buttons which amongst things makes it impossible to minimize windows. Does anyone have an idea about how to get them back?

Visual C++ And Wine

What is the latest version of Visual C++ that is known to work with the Wine "compatibility layer"? I sometimes use VC++ 6.0 ( from back in 1998 ) on Fedora ( which seems to work fine ) to debug code when Qt Creator ( that uses gdb like every other GUI debugger I've found ) has given me inaccurate debugging information ( I was debugging some code from a program that I've been working on on both Windows and Linux where a pointer was listed as holding the value 0 after a dynamic memory allocation when the allocation actually succeeded ). Are any of the current versions of Visual Studio Express known to work with Wine? I think I tried the 2005 version of VC++ express and it would not install. Thanks for any information.

Focus problem with recent Gnome and VirtualBox windows?

After updating my Fedora 20 system with the latest packages today I started having serious issues with window focus.

I use mouse focus mode so keyboard and mouse events will be sent to whatever application the mouse pointer is hovering over.

After starting a VirtualBox VM window, I found that I could physically move the mouse out of the VirtualBox VM window, but mouse and keyboard events continued to go to the VirtualBox VM. I'm essentially trapped in the VM window until I go to another virtual console and kill -1 gnome-shell to get out. Then I get trapped again.

I can move the mouse outside of the VM window to the top left corner and it will show waves in the corner that it knows the mouse is there, but the Gnome overview of running apps doesn't appear. The Windows key doesn't do anything either.

Pressing the right CTRL key is the normal way of releasing the mouse pointer from the VM window when you don't have transparent mouse focus between Linux and VMs. This doesn't seem to work.

I've been using this environment for the last hour or so running my VMs in headless mode and using an RDP viewer to interact with them. The focus problem hasn't seemed to re-appear which makes me think this problem isn't Gnome itself but an interaction with Gnome and VirtualBox.

If you're having problems such as this, would you please +1 to let me know I'm not the only one. If you have any suggestions on anything I can do to invesgitate, please chime in.

Fedora 20 - Burning DIscs

The reference doc says the following

CD/DVD Creator is disc burning software integrated with the GNOME desktop.

Right-click on the ISO image file that you downloaded and select Write to disk. The Write to Disc dialog box appears.
Click the Write button. CD/DVD Creator prompts you to insert a disc, then burns the image file to the disc.
However when I right click on an iso file there is no option for "Write to Disc." The default app is Disc Image Mounter and among the alternatives is Disc Image Writer which shows the DVD burner as read only. (I think, this app has a very ambigious user interface.) Does anyone know what became of CD/DVD Creator?

What is Disk Image Mounter?

I'm running F 19 with Xfce, fully updated. My default program for opening .iso files is Disk Image Mounter, but nothing happens when I try to look into a disc image. I don't even see any changes in top if I have it running in a terminal. I'm beginning to wonder if I don't have the right program installed, but unless I know what program to look for, I can't tell. If anybody knows what program it is, please let me know.

flash player help

help! im using fedora 20 and i can seem to get flash player to work. ive tried downloading it from the adobe website, and from yum, it says it was downloaded successfully both ways, but when i use any web browser to watch a video it still says flash player required. if anyone could run me through how to get this working it would be a real help.

reboot and shutdown -h now

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've used fedora but I just installed fedora 20 (xfce edition) and it's quite nice. I have everything set up to my liking except for two things. I'm coming from debian, arch linux and ubuntu and one of the first things I do is to set up shortcut keys for shutdown and reboot. It works like this, first I add this to the sudoers file:

a StudioA=NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown
a StudioA=NOPASSWD: /sbin/reboot

then I setup the xfce keyboard shortcuts like this:

sudo shutdown -h now > ctrrl + alt + s
sudo reboot > ctrl + alt + r

This doesn't work in fedora 20. I see that /sbin/shutdown and /sbin/reboot are symlinked to /usr/bin/systemctl.
does anyone know what shortcut command might do the job?
